Upon instigating this blog, I instantaneously found reprieve in technology, “What better way to spark curiosity than to be inspired by a Ted Talk?” A quick search through Google led me to Sugata Mitra’s: The child-driven education presentation: https://www.ted.com/talks/sugata_mitra_the_child_driven_education#t-714015.
This presentation leads a fascinating insight into the power of technology as a tool for learning and intrinsic motivation and engagement. Mitra’s findings in India, reflect my own discoveries during practical experience in schools, where it became obvious rather quickly that if I wanted students to engage in learning, I needed to add a touch of magic, i.e technology! Children would sit up, their eyes beam brightly and they were ready to investigate. It’s remarkable really, and what Mitra’s research highlighted was the dire correlation between engagement and learning and the central role that technology plays with today’s learners.
This link has opened my eyes to the possibilities that technologies offer us as teachers and has inspired me to invest in my own knowledge and make the most of this amazing tool for learning.
